KIDS - Play Trend: Teepees!
Friday, July 15, 2011 at 8:57AM I currently work at a modern kids’ party planning business and play space in Los Angeles. The owners are mom entrepreneurs with an uncanny expertise for designing kids’ themed-events and finding the latest inspired kids’ toys. After several months of observing what the kids are drawn to and learning about the latest trends, I thought I would share some of my finds with my Merriment readers. If you are a mom, aunt, grandmother, or future mom; work with kids as a teacher, counselor, or volunteer; or just feel like a kid at heart, then these kids posts are for you!

Earlier this year, the owners purchased a large teepee for the back patio space and painted it a gorgeous, bright orange and yellow. It is hilarious to watch as the kids make a beeline for the teepee; they love to play, eat, read, rest, and whisper with friends in the teepee. It is the ideal little nook for kids to safely unleash their imaginations, sheltered and out of direct sight of the grown-up world.
Remember how fun it was to build tents and forts in your living room as a kid? My grandparents had this delightful red tent that my sisters and I would practically live in when we visited their house. Guess what? Kids still love them! Living in an adult-designed world, kids crave their own special, custom-fit spaces – places designed just for them, places where they can experience at least the semblance of privacy, places where they can feel equal parts confident, adventurous, imaginative, and peaceful.
Even though kids’ tents and teepees have been around for years, they have resurfaced with a surge of popularity! Mommy blogs, kids interior decorating magazines, toy stores, everyone is raving about play teepees.
Check out some of my favorite teepees for purchase at Moozle (Adorable! Can customize with child's name), Rosenberry Rooms, Ministyle, The Land of Nod, Skandivis, Dexton Kids, or DIY for less with these instructions from the blog, Smile and Wave!
